The Eastern Michigan District has taken a
proactive approach to respond to the Katrina hurricane disaster
with a five-fold response:
-
Our district has built and
shipped almost 4,200 Crisis Care Kits (CCK) along with
approximately 200 cases of other needed supplies such
as work gloves, bleach, baby products, etc. to Monroeville
First Church of the Nazarene, one of three distribution
points for the Nazarene Disaster Response team. Another
batch of CCK are boxed and ready to ship at any time.
- We have adopted Gulfport
Mississippi First Church of the Nazarene and the
families of that church. We will be providing shingles and
roofing crews to replace the roofs of eight homes of those
without insurance or the elderly of that congregation. We
will also be providing ongoing construction of the church
facility starting the end of October.
- We have also adopted New
Orleans First Church of the Nazarene to send work teams
for the rebuilding of the church and two parsonages. This
response has already begun and will continue for
approximately two months.
- All the churches of the
Eastern Michigan District have received offerings in behalf
of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries for Katrina
Hurricane Nazarene Disaster Relief fund.
- Finally, prior to landfall
of hurricane Katrina, Nazarenes from all across our district
have been remembering in prayer their Nazarene brothers and
sisters and all of the other people of that region affected
by this disaster.
More specific information regarding the
relief efforts taking place in New Orleans and Gulfport can be found by clicking the
"New Orleans" and
"Gulfport" menu links.
For individuals and teams who wish to sign up, please click on
the
"Volunteer" link on the menu. This will be essential for skilled trades, so
that we can get them on site as needed.
Those that were present at the meeting on Wednesday 9/21 will be
contacted as to their preferred W&W team dates. Other churches
may contact the website to sign up teams or individuals. If you
have questions, please click on the "Contact" link on the menu.
Once again, thank you for your generosity and continued support.
